Actuate

Background app · macOS & Windows

Every key has an actuation point.
Now it has a sound.

Actuate listens for every keypress on your machine and answers with a real mechanical click — recorded from actual switches, not synthesized. Works in any app, even while it's not focused.

How it works

Signal path

Global hook

A system-level listener reads raw keydown/keyup events from every app — never the characters you type.

Audio engine

Matches the key to a category, rotates through takes, and nudges pitch and gain slightly so no two clicks are identical.

Your speakers

A one-shot voice plays instantly — pre-decoded samples, no disk reads on the hot path.

Nothing you type is ever recorded.

Actuate only sees that a key went down and when — never which characters they spell out, and secure fields (password boxes) are invisible to it by OS design. It's a personal, unsigned build: no analytics, no network calls, nothing leaves your machine.
